NFT stand for Non-Fungible-Token. It is a digital certificate of authenticity. What does this mean?

In real life and outside of the digital world, classic works of art, first edition books, vinyl, antiques, and other historical items are often sold at auctions with a certificate that they are genuine and one of a kind. So, how can we transform this “real-world” habit into the digital world? Enters NFT.

NFT serves the same purpose but for digital items. It allows GIFs, videos, jpegs, mp3s, and just any file format to be certified as one-of-a-kind. This technology opens the door to a new type of “ownership” for digital files that wasn’t previously possible thanks to blockchain technology.

NFTs can be collected, sold, and even destroyed like any physical item. The blockchain keeps the logs of every transaction and pricing history visible to anyone on the internet.

By the way, the Wu-Tang clan sold exactly one copy of their album “Once Upon a Time in Shaolin.” Martin Shkreli, the former pharmaceuticals entrepreneur, paid $2m for it at auction back in 2015. This proves the concept that collectors will pay big money to own certified one-of-a-kind copies.
