رالی - More good news to report on jobs and economic development in North Carolina: A packaging manufacturer is adding jobs and investing $15 million in its site at Thomasville.

Imaflex USA and Gov. Roy Cooper announced the news Tuesday.

The expansion means 37 new jobs, the company says.

The news adds to a growing streak of economic development projects across North Carolina despite growing concerns about the state of the economy.

“Imaflex’s decision to expand in Thomasville is a great example of why our state is lauded as the best place for business,” said Cooper in the announcement. “Global companies see the opportunities for success with our strong manufacturing economy, the largest manufacturing workforce in the Southeast, and an excellent East Coast location.”

Imaflex USA is part of Imaflex Inc., a Montréal-based developer and manufacturer of polyethylene and metalized films and bags, according to the N.C. Department of Commerce.

“The Thomasville expansion will allow the company to upgrade its extrusion operations and increase film making capacity in the current facility, while constructing a 25,000-square-foot building to consolidate printing and distribution operations,” Commerce added.

Imlaflex has operated in Thomasville since 2006.

New jobs will include extrusion, converting, printing, maintenance, and management personnel, according to the announcement.

The company will receive a $75,000 One North Carolina Fund grant if certain performance criteria are met.
