$3 million for an Generic NFT artwork – Top 10 NFT Sales

Seller bought the artwork for 1 ETH two weeks ago

Amidst the cryptocurrency price slump, someone paid more than $3 million for an NFT artwork and then moved the artwork to a separate wallet. The NFT was originally acquired 16 days ago for 1 ETH, before being sold for $3,02 million on Friday. 

The NFT artwork depicts an alternative version of the Mona Lisa, colored in green symbols from The Matrix with an overlay of falling US dollars. It’s one of the 936 artworks created by the original creator, signaling spam instead of craftsmanship and scarcity. Above all, the artist is anonymous and doesn’t seem to follow a particular theme or art style. 

Whether this purchase has been an expensive mistake or an attempt at money laundering, remains a mystery. Nonetheless, Mona Money Matrix was the most expensive NFT sold last week. Furthermore, punk 1190 sold for a nice $1,4 million or 400 ETH, adding another million-dollar purchase to last week’s top 10 NFT sales.

A serious price pump for this Meebit

In third place in the DappRadar Top 10 NFT Sales, we find Meebit #116920. During the weekend it sold for $493,360 or 201 ETH. This doesn’t make this particular Meebit a top-selling one. However, what’s interesting about this transaction is that it sold for 1,44 ETH just a few hours before. 

Meebit #116920 possesses mostly average attributes, all except one. This character is wearing a jersey with jersey number 1 on it.
