Global chip manufacturer Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) recently said that it would focus on manufacturing gaming graphics processing units, even with the rising demand for mining processors.

With the rising popularity of crypto mining, miners are preferring to use GPUs because of their high capacity processors, which are the top necessity in mining cryptocurrencies.

And since cryptos are getting harder to mine every day, the demand for high-capacity chips is always rising every day as well. GPUs, aside from being used for gaming purposes, can also fill up this need because of their high specs.

Can’t keep up

The crypto mining trends have shot up so fast that major chip manufacturers such as AMD, Nvidia, and other chip makers have found it hard to keep up with the demand.

AMD has been on the receiving end lately and has come under criticism for its failure to meet the rising demands for high-capacity processors. It was even accused of prioritizing mining cards over gaming chips.

The recent global pandemic has added further headaches to the chip problem as manufacturing plants have closed, causing a major global chip shortage.

AMD’s chief financial officer (CFO) Devinder Kumar has denied the accusations that the company is prioritizing GPU cryptocurrency mining chips.

The CFO has attended the Deutsche Bank Technology Conference and answered various questions, which included AMD’s priorities in chip manufacturing.

Nvidia, not spared

No chip manufacturers were spared from the consequences of the sudden rise of demand for crypto mining chips. Like AMD, Nvidia has also struggled to keep up with the global demand and is also bearing mounting criticism against its failure to be ahead of the demand.

But the company found a way to at least mitigate the problem and avoid the risk of letting the problem go out of hand. Nvidia has produced and marketed GPUs that are specifically made for crypto miners.

This move helped decrease the demand for its gaming GPUs that miners are scrambling to purchase for their mining operations.
