BRIT School lines up AED Audio arrays for student concert

AED Audio has supported a student showcase of protest music at the BRIT School called What’s Going On.

The BRIT School, which is in Croydon, south London, is funded by the British Record Industry Trust and its alumni include Adele, Jessie J and Amy Winehouse.

What’s Going On featured music in a variety of eclectic styles, all performed and written by current year 12 music students. All the backstage elements of the show were also handled by students.

The front-of-house sound and monitors were operated by year 13 production arts students, while the AED Audio team was on hand throughout to assist with set-up and support, and to demonstrate how the system worked.

The performing-arts school’s Obie Theatre was kitted out with a range of equipment, including two line arrays, consisting of eight FLEX6 speakers and one SOLID15 low cabinet/subwoofer, as well as a ground stack of SOLID28 and SOLID15 subs with a FLEX6 in point source to provide infill to each side. The AED Audio system integrated seamlessly with the theatre’s Dante network, meaning it could offer great sound quality while remaining intuitive and easy to use.

AED UK commercial manager David Baker said: “The next generation of on-stage talent is gaining the crucial live-performance experience it needs with shows such as like What’s Going On, and we’re pleased that they’re doing it with AED Audio equipment. Our FLEX6 speaker was a perfect fit for the Obie Theatre due to its plug-and-play flexibility, which allows it to be deployed in many different configurations.”

AED Audio consultant Sam Vincent added: “As a former BRIT School student myself, it was great to be involved with this project and give something back to a fantastic institution.”
