Enjin Legal Team Nominated for Top Honors at ALB Southeast Asia Law Awards | BitPinas

Alongside industry giants like Crypto.com and Ripple, the Enjin Legal team also garnered recognition at the Asian Legal Business (ALB) Southeast Asia Law Awards 2024. The team is nominated for both Southeast Asia In-House Team of the Year and Blockchain In-House Team of the Year.

Oscar Franklin Tan, Chief Legal Officer and Chief Financial Officer, is a finalist for In-House Lawyer of the Year (Technology), and Isabel Guidote-Pangalangan, General Counsel, is up for Woman Lawyer of the Year (In-House).

The team is nominated alongside traditional global giants like Mastercard, Standard Chartered Bank, Meta, L’Oréal, Mercedes Benz, and Lego, as well as regional tech unicorns including GoTo (Gojek/Tokopedia), Lazada, Ninja Van, and Traveloka.

The Enjin Legal team is led by three experienced leaders: Oscar Franklin Tan, Isabel “Ish” Guidote-Pangalangan, and Nadaine Tongco-Edades.

Tan holds dual roles as Enjin’s Chief Financial Officer and Chief Legal Officer. His substantial experience advising Enjin since 2018, coupled with his inclusion in the prestigious Legal 500 GC Powerlist, underscores his expertise in venture capital and fintech law. He holds degrees from Harvard Law School and the University of the Philippines.

Guidote-Pangalangan serves as General Counsel and VP-Legal of Enjin. With past roles in corporate law and the Philippine Competition Commission, she has earned accolades such as “Young Lawyer of the Year” and “Fintech Lawyer of the Year.” Her educational background includes Harvard Law School, King’s College London, and the University of the Philippines, with qualifications across various jurisdictions.

Certified public accountant (CPA) Tongco-Edades is VP-Finance & Tax, Controller, and Associate General Counsel for Enjin. Her experience in corporate law and Ernst & Young audit has led to recognition as a finalist in various legal awards for her expertise in both legal and financial areas. Enjin also highlighted her role as a Juris Doctor and a double major from the University of the Philippines, extending her contributions to teaching at the university’s College of Law.

“Over the past year, the legal team has played an integral role in major Ecosystem developments and has been praised for its adaptability in the face of evolving regulatory compliance,” Enjin wrote.

In a statement, Enjin emphasized that the legal team’s nomination continues its momentum from being listed on the esteemed Legal 500 GC Powerlist in October 2023. Enjin noted that the recognition underscores its leadership in the legal field. Additionally, the Enjin ecosystem has earned acclaim for its ability to adapt to changing regulatory and legal landscapes.

Further, the media release noted that in 2023, Enjin showcased its commitment to innovation and leadership in the blockchain industry through notable achievements in which the legal team participated. These included the successful launch and migration of tokens across multiple blockchains, implementation of blockchain IP and royalty payment enforcement, and execution of the largest NFT migration from Ethereum.

ALB SEA Law Awards

According to the press release, the ALB Southeast Asia Law Awards is a prominent event that acknowledges various industries such as investment banking, private equity/venture capital, and technology teams, among others, without focusing solely on tech or blockchain.

It is an annual gathering that honors legal professionals and entities in Southeast Asia. These accolades commend excellence within the legal sector, highlighting the remarkable achievements of both private practitioners and in-house counsel who have made significant contributions to the field.

Previous Award

In 2022, Guidote-Pangalangan, who was then the Head of Legal at Enjin, received the title of “Fintech Lawyer of the Year” at the ALB Philippine Law Awards 2022. She was also honored as “In-House Young Lawyer of the Year” at the same event and was a finalist for “Woman Lawyer of the Year” and “In-House Lawyer of the Year.”
