The second season of the ESL Impact League is ready to get underway with eight teams in the European division battling it out over six weeks for two spots at the LAN finals, which will take place in Jönköping at the end of November. The South American and North American divisions will follow later in the day.
The event opens with two best-of-three double round-robin groups, from which the top two teams in each group will then advance to the playoffs. The bracket will be a best-of-three single-elimination that will end with the two finalists sealing berths for the LAN finals.
Reigning champions Nigma Galaxy will be favorites to progress
Nigma Galaxy will come into this Impact season as comfortable favorites, not only to advance to the finals from the European section of the league but also to win the whole event outright. The majority-Russian squad won the ESL Impact Season 1 Finals and ESL Impact Valencia in dominant fashion, winning the latter without dropping a single map.
They also boast arguably the best player in the women’s scene amongst their ranks, Ana “ANa” Dumbravă, who was the highest rated player during the Season 1 Finals with a 1.36 rating over eight maps, and second in Valencia with a 1.40 rating over six maps.
Further teams with previous Impact LAN experience feature across the three divisions: BIG EQUIPA, who achieved a top-four finish in the Season 1 Finals and NAVI Javelins, who grabbed a top-four in Valencia, will do battle in the European division.
