  • Ethereum’s (ETH) Shanghai Hard Fork delayed by two weeks.
  • Upgrade to take place in first two weeks of April following Goerli testnet launch on March 14.
  • Goerli testnet is a public Ethereum testnet based on Proof-of-Authority (PoA).

In the world of blockchain, updates and delays are a common occurrence. This week, Ethereum enthusiasts were disappointed to hear that the highly anticipated Shanghai hard fork has been delayed by two weeks.

Originally expected to be deployed in late March, the upgrade will now take place in the first two weeks of April, following the final dress rehearsal on the Gourley test net, which is scheduled for March 14. The Ethereum Shanghai upgrade delay was made public on March 2nd, 2023 as an official notification.

The Ethereum Shanghai upgrade is giong to be the first launch on the Ethereum ecosystem since the launch of the ETH merge which shifted Ethereum from the algorithm of Proof-of-Work (PoW) to Proof-of-Stake (PoS).

According to the reports, the Ethereum developers came into agreement that the Goerli testnet launch will take place first and then after two weeks the launch of the Shangai upgrade would be initiated and put to worke on the Ethereum platform.

The Goerli testnet is a public Ethereum testnet that is based on the Proof-of-Authority (PoA)consensus mechanism.

According to a statement by the coordinator of the project Tim Beiko stated “For mainnet, we usually want to give people at least two weeks after the announcement,” before adding, “so imagine Goerli happens on the 14th, everything goes well, on the 16th, we agree to move forward with mainnet I think the earliest that puts us is like the first week of April.”

Tim Beiko noted in a recent Twitter thread that the Ethereum team did not agree to a mainnet date explicitly. However, they will “probably” set a date during the next developers meeting on March 16, “assuming things go well on Goerli.”

Meanwhile, in the previous 24 hours, the Ethereum market has exchanged hands at a cost of $1,569.80, a price fall of 0.09%, while trading volume has reduced by 36.68% and is now hovering at $6,188,807,073.
