YGG Roadtrip Tournament

More than 100 players participated in the Axie Classic (Axie Infinity V2) tournament that started around 10:30 AM.

Due to a large number of players, the first bracket was divided into two batches.

The first set of brackets was a single-elimination match; whoever wins will automatically be qualified for the second bracket. Then the next brackets were best-of-three matches while the Finals is a best-of-five matchup.

My Experience in the YGG Axie Classic Tournament

It was a long trip to Baguio, but I was able to catch up to the call time for the tournament and was assigned to the second batch of the first elimination match ups. (Participants need to register online prior to the event to show their tickets to the Marshalls.)

Marshalls had to scan their QR codes found on their tickets and participants were given a purple baller for them to enter the venue. Scholar’s of YGG Guild Manager Mahalay were given printed neon green shirts for them to wear during the event.

As soon as the first batch was finished, the participants for the second batch were given their table assignments. Each table had their own arbiter to tally who won, as well as to make sure that health protocols were being follwed. There were electrical sockets available for mobile devices and laptops so participants would not drain their battery.

I had a chance to battle an amazing scholar of APA x YGG and it was a great battle but unfortunately for me, luck was on his side.

Afterwards, the winning participants were requested to come back after lunch. Lunch packs were given to all participants.

From more than a hundred players, the number was reduced down to 32 until two of the best players matched up, which was streamed online.

Tris of APA x YGG (Interview)

Tris, aka TR1Splays, is one of the participants of the event and a scholar of YGG. He was my first and last opponent. I was able to interview him after our match.

TR1S with Kookoo

Tris is a gamer since the age of 14. From offline games like Need for Speed, Dota and Counter Strike at their own computer shop in Baguio, to online games like Flyff, O2Jam and Ran Online. A former OFW from Dubai after college, he had to immediately return to the Philippines because of the pandemic.

When Tris heard about Axie Infinity and YGG, he had to learn the gameplay and apply for a scholarship with YGG. Lucky enough, he got in and even watched more from known content creators like Kookoo, Ruthless Redge, VMG, Plusoneplays and Elijah of MT8.

In the process, he learned more about cryptocurrencies and started to build up his own Axie teams, purchase his own computer and help out in the expenses at home. He got acquainted with Mahalay of YGG Baguio and became part of his guild.

“Being given the chance to be part of the first event and tournament of YGG in Baguio has been a great experience. I was able to witness how great the community is. The cherry on top was being able to compete and be part of the Top 16 players who battled out on the first-ever tournament. I may not have won the competition, but I was able to Meet and Great a few of the YGG Family from different parts of the country. They were all very welcoming and optimistic. The experience made me feel like a winner.” – Tris, APA X YGG

Tris is currently working from home but surely gamers may see him again in the coming tournaments.

Closing Thoughts

Baguio City is just the start of YGG’s campaign to inform more Filipinos about blockchain games. This won’t be the first and last YGG road trip as there are plans to visit more cities around the country soon.
