RALEIGH – Information technology job openings across North Carolina fell sharply in November, dipping to the second lowest number of the year, the NC Technology Association says.
Openings fell to 32,537 from a yearly high of 39,378 in October.
The November total was just above the previous yearly low of 32,456 in July.
Across the Triangle positions advertised declined in double digits. However in several North Carolina metros open jobs increased.

The drop comes as North Carolina’s unemployment rate rose to 3.9% in a report issued last week and as a number of tech-related layoffs have occurred over the past several months. WRAL TechWire’s weekly Jobs Report also has noted a slowing demand for workers at 50 leading tech firms in the Triangle.
‘Trend line still moving upward’
“November IT job postings dipped to the 2nd lowest for 2022, just after October figures hit a peak,” said Andrea Fleming, Director of Talent and Workforce Development at NC TECH. “Could this month be a return to pre-Covid trends for Q4 to dip before rebounding in January? North Carolina tech company layoffs have been in the media recently, but job postings are still at strong levels.”
Fleming pointed out that on average North Carolina firms have posted nearly 35,000 openings a month this year, well above the 30,486 average for 2021.
In 2020 and 2019 the average was around 26,000.
Concluded Fleming: “The trend line is still moving upward.”
