Horizon Worlds Spotlight: 2D Cafe

Welcome back to our weekly spotlight on the people building for Horizon Worlds and their amazing creations.

Last week, we checked in JoleneSugarbaker, the Taste Award-winning cooking show host and creator of Trailer Park World.

This week, we explore the minimalist DIY world of Caitvill’s 2D Cafe, a place where pastries go from being literally featureless to vibrant—but only at your creative discretion.

Imagine walking into a coffee shop, eager to sink your teeth into a tasty donut, and discovering that you’ve entered the starkest-possible environment—a black-and-white room full of the straightest of straight lines, tables and chairs that couldn’t be more austere, and a view through a window of a bright, colorful, and inviting backyard that you can never reach.

That pretty much describes 2D Cafe. And thankfully, there’s so much more. That’s because, tucked away in one corner of the room, there’s a little box with three markers. And this small detail is the key to unlocking the magic.

Grab one of the markers, walk up to a pastry (or anything else for that matter), touch it, and voilà—color! Do it again, and again, and again, and suddenly this somber room comes alive. The donuts and macarons suddenly look tasty, the tables begin to look warm, and the glorious backyard vista, while still wonderful to view through the window, becomes less an impenetrable paradise and more like an extension of the comfort and joy you’re already experiencing.

Bring some friends, get them wandering around with a marker in hand, and you’ve got the makings of a bustling local eatery that just so happens to be open 24/7/365 and is always filled with sunshine. Bon appétit!
