Interview: Bitget’s New Crypto Initiatives: Empowering Youth, Women | BitPinas

The big initiative: Bitget COO, Vugar Usi Zade, spoke with BitPinas about their new initiatives, Blockchain4Youth and Blockchain4Her, both with $10 million funds separately.

What’s the significance: Bitget said it wants to expand beyond its current exchange business and invest in the future of the crypto industry by training the youth and opening up more opportunities for more people. They have kickstarted both initiatives, with some events and training being organized in the Philippines.

Blockchain4Youth

This initiative aims to educate and incorporate young professionals into the crypto and blockchain sectors.

The numbers: Engaged over 6,000 learners globally, offering workshops, lectures, and projects, and issued 2,000 certificates.

• Includes an apprenticeship program, offering a three-month paid internship to 20 young apprentices, with the top three invited to Dubai for firsthand industry experience.
• Partners with prominent institutions in the Middle East and Turkey to address traditional education system limitations.
• In the Philippines, Bitget has partnered with organizations, including the non-profit Devcon to drive up Blockchain4Youth

“I think it’s very important to invest in the next generation of young professionals who will be coming to the industry and taking this industry to the next level,” Vugar said.

This initiative, founded by Bitget CEO Gracy Chen, focuses on empowering women and addressing financial exclusion, offering support in entrepreneurship, job opportunities in crypto, and financial literacy.

A Bitget research revealed: blockchain startups have raised $27.85 billion between 2022 and 2023, yet female-led blockchain startups secured only 6.34% of the overall funding.

• Currently: This initiative is pushing forward, onboarding high profile key opinion leaders and organizing events locally and abroad.

“This initiative was to support women in every aspect of life and onboard them to crypto. If someone is from a very rural area, just has access to the internet, they can easily find a job. And it’s not only about women. It’s about everyone who is marginalized.”

The challenge: Crypto is a very volatile industry, which Vugar also noted. He, however, vows about this one key thing for their company: “Unlike other companies that expand and contract based on market conditions, Bitget has consistently invested in growth,” Vugar said.

Moving forward: As the industry starts becoming increasingly more global and more regulated, Bitget wants to focus on the following:

• Compliance: Bitget will continue to expand its compliance team to ensure it follows regulation.
• Global Expansion: It will focus on growth in Latin America and Southeast Asia.

How does Bitget Wallet differentiate itself in the market?

“The Bitget Wallet is unique because of its strategic, long-term focus. Unlike other companies that expand and contract based on market conditions, Bitget has consistently invested in growth.” 

What’s your take on the future of Bitget’s compliance efforts?

“We are significantly expanding our compliance team to ensure adherence to local laws and regulations across the regions where we operate.”

Why push for Blockchain4Youth?

“[This is] not only for the next generation of talent that we’re going to hire at Bitget but also, I think we are heavily impacting the entire industry.”

What are your plans for Southeast Asia?

“It is one of our strongest markets, therefore we are aiming to make sure that we keep our position and expand especially in Vietnam. We have done several large campaigns and we are doing a lot of locally tailored campaigns, also same in the Philippines.”
