‘Metaverse onramp:’ Lenovo looks to make virtual reality a real tool for enterprises

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Lenovo has been talking about virtual reality headsets as far back as 2017. By early next year, the PC global giant says VR headsets will be available for use by enterprises – price still to be determined.

Lenovo is thus looking to cash in on an exploding metaverse virtual world industry. The metaverse market size is projected to reach more than $1.5 trillion dollars before the end of the decade with growth soaring nearly 50% a year, says Fortune Business Insights.

The company unveiled the ThinkReality VRX headset early Wednesday and is promising available early next year.

Here’s a video about the headset and features.

Labeled the “onramp to the enterprise metaverse,” the headset is incorporated into a package of offerings.

“Our customers are looking for reliable, flexible and scalable gateways into the growing Enterprise Metaverse. They need business-class solutions for the new realities of working in hybrid scenarios and virtual environments” said Vishal Shah, GM of XR and Metaverse at Lenovo, in a statement. “We engineered the Lenovo ThinkReality VRX to be the VR solution of choice for training and collaborating in immersive 3D.”

Lenovo says the headset offers a “slim, comfortable form factor.”

“The ThinkReality VRX headset incorporates a variety of design advancements to make it more comfortable for extended VR sessions,” Lenovo explains. “Innovative ‘pancake’ lenses help keep the form factor slim. The high-capacity battery is optimally positioned for better weight distribution, and the ThinkReality VRX features a unique venting system that channels heat from the display away from the wearer’s face.”

Lenovo also says it’s offering “full suite of end-to-end services to help businesses achieve speed-to-solution and realize return on investment faster.”

Lenovo operates two global headquarters- in RTP and Beijing – and employs thousands of people in North Carolina.
