NAVI beat Heroic to set up G2 matchup

Natus Vincere defeated Heroic in a three-map series, with the teams trading two close-fought maps in Mirage (16-14) and Inferno (14-16) before Natus Vincere closed out the game on Overpass (16-7) after several tech issues and long delays. Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev was unsurprisingly the highest-rated player in the series, even though Casper “cadiaN” Møller gave him a run for his money on Mirage.

s1mple was in good spirits despite persistent tech issues

Heroic started Mirage like a team on fire, as they won the pistol round and jumped to a 9-1 lead. cadiaN repeatedly got the better of s1mple in several AWP duels, as the CIS squad looked dejected at the start of the half. Denis “electroNic” Sharipov stepped up when Natus Vincere needed him most, winning a 1vs2 clutch to completely turn the tide of the game. With the round, he shattered the Heroic economy which didn’t fully recover at any point in the half. Things got a bit perilous for Natus Vincere, as they needed Ilya “Perfecto” Zalutskiy‘s clutch to bail them out of losing against a full eco, but the scoreline still ended 9-6 after their five-round streak.

Natus Vincere weren’t able to get the hot start to the second half they wanted, as Heroic won the first gun round and managed to win the force-buy wars. That got them to get up to a 13-9 lead before Perfecto‘s heroic B defense meant the scores were soon tied up at 14-14. Natus Vincere secured five rounds in a row to close out the map 16-14, getting over their bad start and moving the series to Inferno.

Natus Vincere were much more successful at shutting down Heroic‘s aggression at the start of the first half, negating their pistol-round win with a five-round streak of their own, started by a couple of impressive scout shots by s1mple. Natus Vincere kept the lead till halftime, looking comfortable bar a loss in a 3vs5 situation against Heroic‘s pistol buy.

Natus Vincere grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck after winning the pistol to reach a five-round lead. cadiaN was the only member of his team to buy in the next round, with his rifle providing three kills and switching the game’s momentum. Natus Vincere‘s lead was decreasing with each passing moment, with both teams winning rounds from some unfavorable situations. Jakob “jabbi” Nygaard stepped up to get a triple-kill on Banana to start a four-round streak that enabled them to close out the map 16-14.

The first few rounds of Overpass were marred by technical pauses, with several Natus Vincere players suffering difficulties that made it impossible for them to play. Several crashes happened mid-round, with the game normally resuming at a 5-3 scoreline. s1mple looked as warmed-up as ever, getting four kills in the first two rounds to put his team 7-3 up. Heroic looked to have been more affected by the two-hour delay, eventually losing the half with a 10-5 scoreline after getting the last two rounds of the half.

Viktor “sdy” Orudzhev secured the second pistol round for his team with a triple-kill, and Natus Vincere looked in control from then on. They lost just one round in the second half, ending up 16-6 winners of the marathon series that took almost six hours to finish.
