New Quest Software Update Gets You Back To Your Recent Apps Faster and Adds a Fantastical Home Environment

Deja vu, eh? We just wrapped up talking about our last software update and it’s already time for the next. Welcome to the v46 update (and don’t you dare ask what happened to v45).

This will be our last update before Meta Connect on October 11—and get ready The Lord of the Rings fans, because there’s a new Home environment incoming based on Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series. We’re also making it easier to jump back into your most recent games and apps, and streamlining your Privacy Settings.

Read on for more details, and we hope you’ll tune in on October 11 to see what we have in store at Connect, and the months to come!

Recent Apps

Maybe you squeeze in a quick lunchtime workout in Supernatural every day. Maybe you’ve got a dedicated Walkabout Mini Golf group that meets up every Saturday without fail. Maybe you dip into Gravity Sketch during your work day, or are making your way through Moss: Book II by night, or use Puzzling Places to unwind before bed.

Point being: Everyone loves adding new games to their Library, but most of us probably have a few we keep coming back to day in and day out. With v46, we’re making it easier to get back into your favorite games and apps. You’ll now find your three most recent apps easily accessible in the Quest’s dock, which should save you from having to pop into your larger Library every time you want to get back to what you were doing the day before.

The Halls of Durin

The halls of Khazad-dûm run deeper than the mountains are tall—and now you can be one of the first humans to call them “Home.” We’ve collaborated with Prime Video to create a new Horizon Home environment inspired by the portrayal of Khazad-dûm in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, now streaming on Prime Video. Marvel at this legendary city, its endless halls and precarious brazier-lit bridges hewn straight from the rock.

Launching on October 10, the Khazad-dûm environment will be free to everyone on the Quest Platform. Just look for the Virtual Environment tab in your Settings menu and you’ll be able to download this Second Age city to your headset. Be quick though—it’ll only be available for a limited time!

Don’t miss the epic season 1 finale of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on October 14, only on Prime Video.

Privacy Settings Redesign / Settings Search Improvements

Rounding out v46, we’re reworking and streamlining your Privacy Settings on the Quest Platform. Once the update is installed, you’ll be prompted to double-check your settings, including who can see that you’re online, who can see what you’re playing, and so forth. You’ll also be able to change settings for specific apps—if, for instance, you don’t want your friends to know you’ve been playing Demeo without them.

We’re also improving our Settings overall, specifically when it comes to the Search tool. We’ve refined the overall search results, to start with. In addition, we’ll now make sure anything you’ve previously searched for surfaces higher in the results, so you can quickly revise settings you’ve already looked for in the past.

That’s everything—at least until Connect is over. Again, Connect 2022 is happening on October 11, and you can tune in on the Reality Labs Facebook Page, or sign up for updates at metaconnect.com. See you then!
