Nissan to Launch Game NFTs

Nissan, one of the world’s biggest car producer is to launch some car NFTs for a new game called Torque Drift 2.

That’s by Grease Monkey Games, an Australia-based multi-platform video game studio and a subsidiary of Animoca Brands, which focuses on motorsport. They say:

“Grease Monkey Games and Nissan will release up to 15 unique Nissan models within the next 12 months, with multiple variants to be made available in Torque Drift 2.

The first official Nissan NFTs will be 5 variants of the 180SX model including the cult-favorite Sil80 and 7 variants of the 370Z model including the 50th Anniversary edition.”

The NFTs are planned to be released within the next 12 months with the project claiming these are the first officially licensed Nissan, NISMO, Infiniti, and Datsun NFTs that will be available.

The game will run on the Polygon side-chain, which has increased in adoption as one of the oldest second layer extension linked to the ethereum blockchain.

“Nissan’s entry to the web3 space with Torque Drift 2 represents one of the most exciting and significant implementations of blockchain and NFT technology by a major global brand to date,” said Urvit Goel, head of global games business development at Polygon Studios.

Since the advent of NFTs and the metaverse, numerous global brands have announced crypto related projects.

That includes Mercedes, which launched a series of NFT drops in spring, and Hyundai which launched 10,000 NFTs.

While just on Tuesday Estée Lauder launched a Digital Asset Assistant Internship, showing brands are building full teams beyond senior personnel experimenting around.

This Nissan NFTs however will be a replica, the game claims, with the project stating:

“Grease Monkey Games is working closely with Nissan Motor company to ensure vehicle and vehicle part NFTs are represented in true to life form.

This partnership will give the game studio full access to all Nissan, Datsun, and Infiniti range of vehicle models from past to future.

From 3D models, engine variants, rare NISMO parts to vehicle trim options, color choices, horsepower and performance characteristics, special care is taken to ensure exact accuracy.”

NFTs are therefore developing on many angles during what is still a very experimental stage, with a Nissan Motor spokesperson stating that the “Torque Drift 2 interactive racing is sure to build upon the legacy that Grease Monkey Games has developed from the first title, Torque Drift 1.”

Arran Potter, the founder and managing director of Grease Monkey Games, returned the compliment, stating: “Nissan is synonymous with drifting and motorsport, full stop.”

Animoca Brands itself made an entrance only last year and has expanded since to include numerous projects, including this new NFT game.
