Scarletbox to Launch Larry Alcala’s Set of Profile Picture NFTs

Blue-chip non-fungible token (NFT) launchpad Scarletbox.io is set to launch its long-awaited collection of profile pictures (PFP) NFTs of Philippine national artist and cartoonist Larry Alcala by early November.

According to the platform’s media release, the collection will feature different situational scenes to create “witty and fun” PFPs, and all of the characters will be one-of-one:

“You can now have a chance to have your own Larry Alcala Collectible that no one else will have! You may get a special one!”

The NFTs will be dropped at random and will be in four rarities, namely: Kababayan, Rare, Platinum Rare, and Diamond Rare, which is a character with Larry’s signature profile face.  

For this release, Larry Alcala NFTs will have six collection partners to bridge the generations. These are painter and contemporary artist Bjorn Calleja; NFT project Bored Punks of Society; artist Distort Monsters; NFT collection Planktoons; NFT collection Black Eyed Freaks; and Mustachios by Ownly.

“The Larry Alcala NFTs are perfect as gifts for you or your loved one, with its numerous colorful characters, you can definitely identify someone you know, from your own family or community, or even find a reflection of yourself! Fun merchandise will be available as gifts for Larry Alcala NFT owners this Christmas!” Scarletbox added.

Who is Larry Alcala? 

Larry Alcala is a National Artist for Visual Arts. He received the award in 2008, six years after he passed away.

As an artist, he is known for highlighting the lives of ordinary Filipinos through his comics for 56 years, where he has created over 500 characters, 20 comic strips, six movies, two murals, and 15,000 published pages. Alcala is best known for his witty weekend series “Slice of Life,” released every Sunday from the ’80s to the ’90s. 

Moreover, he was also a retired fine arts professor at the University of the Philippines, where he took his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting in the 1950s.
