Decentralized platform Polygon announced its partnership with world-renowned coffee shop Starbucks Coffee Company last September 12, 2022. The partnership aims to provide Starbucks with blockchain technology to build its recently announced Web3 experience, Starbucks Odyssey.

Because of this partnership, Starbucks Rewards loyalty program members and Starbucks employees in the United States are allowed to earn and purchase digital collectible stamps in the form of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The Polygon (MATIC) network will be used to create this unique loyalty program experience for coffee lovers.

“Building Starbucks Odyssey using technology that aligns with our sustainability aspirations and commitments is a top priority. We took a very thoughtful and thorough approach when evaluating which blockchain to utilize and Polygon’s fast, low-cost, and carbon-neutral network is the perfect foundation for our first digital community,” said Ryan Butz, Vice President of Loyalty, Strategy, and Marketing for Starbucks.

Beginning September 12, 2022, customers and partners of Starbucks can be part of the waitlist. This will give them the chance to be the first to receive access to the Starbucks Odyssey experience. According to the coffee shop, the Starbucks Odyssey will be launched in the latter part of the year.

In addition, the Polygon network has committed by the end of the year to becoming carbon negative. It has already equalized its network’s cumulative carbon dioxide debt. As the Ethereum chain transitions to a proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, the carbon footprint of Polygon PoS is expected to decrease by 99.91%.

Because of this, some of the most important Web3 projects, like Aave, Uniswap version 3 (V3), OpenSea, and Mark Cuban-founded Lazy.com have already stated their interest in having Polygon as their partner. While because of its technical capabilities and features, Adobe, Stripe, and Dolce Gabbana have chosen Polygon as their gateway to Web3 Space.

“Polygon is a natural choice for Starbucks as both companies place tremendous importance on diversity, accessibility, and sustainability. As a leading infrastructure provider enabling people and technology to collaborate and exchange value globally and freely, Polygon provides the ideal launchpad for Starbucks’ entry into Web3.”  Sandeep Nailwal, the Co-Founder of Polygon, stressed.

Polygon has been founded by Jaynti Kanani, Sandeep Nailwal, Anurag Arjun, Mihailo Bjelic, David Schwartz, Jordi Baylina, Antoni Martin, Brendan Farmer, Daniel Lubarov, and Bobbin Threadbare. Polygon, formerly MATIC, was founded in 2017.
