TeamOne, Infinity secure final IEM Rio Americas RMR spots

The last open qualifier for the IEM Road to Rio Americas RMR has concluded, with TeamOne and Infinity earning the final two spots to complete the list of attendees for the event.

Pedro “Maluk3” Campos‘ troops were the first to advance, making up for their narrow loss to Evil Geniuses in the previous qualifier. The Brazilian side advanced through their best-of-one matches with wins over Vendetta and Unjustified to set up a series against BHOP, a match which they made quick work of thanks to stellar performances from Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa and Maluk3 on Ancient and Inferno.

malbsMd may have the chance to take on his former team at the RMR

Infinity became the final team to qualify following wins over Mythic, timbermen and a series victory over mix-team Pete’s Hookah Lounge, a lineup that included former Bad News Bears trio Peter “ptr” Gurney, Alan “Shakezullah” Hardeman, and Gabe “Spongey” Greiner. The South American side had little issue in dispatching of ptr and company on Overpass, but struggled more on Dust2, a map which they came back from a 6-11 deficit to win.

With the last qualifier at an end, the 16 teams who will travel to Stockholm, Sweden to compete for a chance to make it to the IEM Rio Major have been set. The squads will clash from October 5-9 to determine the six representatives from the region that will compete in Brazil, with the home teams having a solid shot at dominating the list as just four North American sides will be in attendance.
