It has been recently revealed that the core developers of Ethereum have a bomb to tackle this summer and they have calculated how to defuse the Difficulty Bomb. Also, it was mentioned that if the bomb is left untreated, then there are chances that they might severely slow down the network.

On Friday, the developers of Ethereum came to an agreement on how to delay a Difficulty Bomb that, if the bomb is left unattended, would begin to slow down the network.
If you are wondering what possibly could be the difficulty bomb, it is an old piece of code that makes the mining process on the Ethereum blockchain slower and comparatively less advantageous.
It does so by exponentially rising the lag between the production of each block.
In addition to this, it should be noted that the bomb was planted in the year 2015 to provide the developers with the incentives to implement Ethereum 2.0.
Discussing further the new upgrade, Ethereum 2.0 switches the network from Proof-of-Work (PoW), which was a way of authenticating dealings with powerful extracting computers, to Proof-of-Stake (PoS), which gives reward to those who pledge their coins to the network.
The Propose for the Calculation of the Delay
James Hancock, the core developer of Ethereum, proposed the calculation for the delay and said:
“The bomb’s always there, and we defuse it by turning the block time back just for the bomb.”
Moreover, a core developer of Etheruem, Tim Beiko revealed that the developers dismissed a proposal to delay the bomb to the next spring which is not going to be necessary.
Along with this, Beiko said:
“If the Merge is ready by December, we won’t need to do anything about the bomb because we will move away from mining entirely.”
