A British man, a Florida man, and a Florida teen have been charged by US authorities in relation to the Twitter hack of prominent politicians, celebrities, and technology moguls to scam people around the globe out of more than USD 100,000 in Bitcoin, authorities said Friday. Graham Ivan Clark, 17, was arrested Friday in Tampa, where the Hillsborough State Attorney’s Office will prosecute him as an adult. The 17-year-old will faces 30 felony charges.

Hackers sent out fake tweets soliciting bitcoin from compromised accounts.

The hackers managed to access the accounts of high profile personalities, including former US President Barack Obama and the current Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Kanye West, and many others. Hackers had put out fake tweets from the compromised accounts soliciting bitcoins from their accounts in promise to double them. Mason Sheppard, 19, of Bognor Regis, UK, and Nima Fazeli, 22 of Orlando, were charged in California federal court for their alleged Twitter hack role. The Twitter hack was among one of the most high-profile security breaches in recent years.

Hackers can’t get away with an anonymous disguise on the Internet.

The US Attorney David L Anderson, for the Northern District of California, said, “there is a false belief within the criminal hacker community that attacks like the Twitter hack can be perpetrated anonymously and without consequence.” Twitter previously said hackers used the phone to fool the social media company’s employees into giving them access. It said hackers targeted “a small number of employees through a phone spear-phishing attack. The microblogging platform tweeted that the attack relied on a significant and concerted attempt to mislead certain employees and exploit human vulnerabilities to gain access to our internal systems, which then later were used to hack into the high profile accounts
