Amazon advertised for a blockchain-related position in the past but now it is officially hiring for a Digital Currency and Blockchain Product lead. Every once in a while, a job posting will kick off a flurry of rumors in the crypto space as the industry watchers wait to see a new corporation like Facebook or Apple and its readiness to adopt crypto payments. However now, Amazon explores crypto payments and even listed a job posting for a Digital Currency and Blockchain product lead to creating a new vision and roadmap for the new payment products.

A statement shared with media outlets by an Amazon spokesperson fanned flames by suggesting the world’s biggest online retailer is considering enabling crypto payments:

“We’re inspired by the innovation happening in the cryptocurrency space and are exploring what this could look like on Amazon. We believe the future will be built on new technologies that enable modern, fast, and inexpensive payments, and hope to bring that future to Amazon customers as soon as possible.”

Exploring crypto doesn’t mean a whole lot because the company has near-unlimited resources and thousands of employees. According to the job posting, the Digital currency and Blockchain Product Lead will have expertise in crypto, central bank digital currencies, and distributed ledger. The new hire is expected to gain leadership buy-in and more investments for new capabilities so they can launch a new strategy, which suggests that the company is taking a serious look at what crypto can offer:

Amazon Web Services which is the cloud platform subsidiary, advertised for a Head of Product for its long-running Amazon managed blockchain that takes care of the hosting and the hardware for developers that want to create on the Hyperledger Fabric or Ethereum. The posting outlined a preference for applicants with decentralized finance and suggested that AWS could be working on more capabilities for protocols that leverage blockchain technology to offer financial products without intermediaries. Amazon’s FinTech team was looking for a Senior Software Engineer working on a financial ledger and reconciliation system to provide data transparency on transactional data.
