Tyler Hobbs, one of today’s most popular generative artists, is still trying to make sense of the popularity he is currently enjoying.
He admitted that his newfound fame was really a big opportunity for him and that he is still trying to adjust to his fresh celebrity status.
Fidenza, his signature project, has successfully debuted on the NFT platform Art Blocks last June. His collection is generated at random by an algorithm of Hobbs’s design and colorful curves and blocks.
Some 999 of the pieces were minted at a price of 0.17 ethereum each, which was around $400 at that time. Hobbs’ digital collection is now being traded on the secondary market OpenSea for as much as 1,000 ether (around $3.5 million) each.
NFTs’ unstoppable rise
NFTs’ rise, both in popularity and sales, was very beneficial for the generative art community because they can finally showcase their art through a rising digital format, which is the NFT.
“I think they’re here to stay, and I think they’re going to play a huge role in the art world particularly for digital art for the foreseeable future,” Hobbs said.
Generative artists have struggled for decades to carve a space in the highly competitive art world, but at last, with NFTs’ growing popularity, their community can finally have the opportunity to make an impact and be known by the world.
Expecting a downturn
Hobbs, even with the success he is currently experiencing, is well aware that he isn’t living in a fantasy world where everything would always go his way.
He acknowledged that the NFT market, just like any other market, has an upward and downward trend. With this in mind, he is already expecting that at some point, NFTs price and demand will eventually nosedive.
