Jehudi Castro Sierra, the advisor to the President of Colombia, said bitcoin can create big changes in the Central and South American region.
This possibility was made clear when El Salvador made a history-defining announcement that it would turn bitcoin as its official legal tender. Since then, other neighboring countries have expressed their openness with bitcoin, but haven’t made any progress yet.
Colombian Presidential Adviser Jehudi Castro is very well-known in the crypto community as a digital currency advocate. He even strongly criticizes everyone who is against the use of the crypto, including the known bitcoin hater Peter Schiff.
Not a politician but a geek
Castro said that he is not supporting bitcoin for political leverage. According to him, it is his “geek side” that encourages him to support the crypto, because he knows the revolutionary side of it.
“I approached bitcoin as a great open-source project. After some time, I also got interested in the monetary innovation that it represents, and I am still discovering amazing new things every day,” he said.
Castro’s support and enthusiasm for bitcoin can be partly explained by his career background in the software industry. He was so amazed by bitcoin that he even calls it the “most brilliant piece of software ever.”
Crucial role in the government
While crediting his geek side as one of the biggest factors that encourage him to support bitcoin, he also admits that his role in the government also plays a crucial role.
Castro is the current chief technology officer of the presidential campaign and is now the advisor to the presidency. But even with these crucial political roles, he makes it clear that the technology and digital transformation side of bitcoin are what drives him to support it.
He also praised El Salvador’s decision to turn bitcoin into legal tender. Though he acknowledges that the decision entails a number of risks, he believes that it would finally uplift El Salvador’s economy.
