Following the recent moves of several global luxury brands, Burberry — a world-renowned British luxury house –has finally ventured into non-fungible tokens.
Burberry will partner with Mythical Games to create its first branded digital toys in-game. This venture is also a clear sign of Burberry’s growing appreciation towards NFTs.
NFT game expert
The Mythical Games was chosen by Burberry because of its expertise in the area of NFT gaming. The studio is behind the successful Blankos Block Party, an NFT game where users can buy, sell, and collect NFT characters.
And Burberry wants to tap into the studio’s expertise to help it make its first safe step in the NFT realm, which is certainly different from its core business, which is fashion.
Aside from the Blankos NFT game, online games such as Fortnite and Funko Pops are also some of today’s most-played games and have established strong fan bases all over the world.
Mythical Games’ Blankos Block Party game is currently free-to-play and derives its revenues from purchasable cosmetics and accessories.
Burberry’s B-Series
Burberry’s first-ever NFT collection will be called ’B-Series’, which will be unveiled on August 11. The British fashion brand also tweeted that a vinyl toy and a limited edition character Sharky B are also included in the collection.
The fashion industry, just like other industries is slowly but surely setting foot on the growing market of NFTs. Previously, other global luxury brands like Dolce & Gabanna, Luis Vuitton, and Gucci have also released their first NFT collection, which delighted their loyal customers.
Even though this digital realm is far from their core business, luxury brands believe that it would further push their brands in the age of massive digitization.
