Elon Musk once confidently proclaimed Dogecoin would be the currency of the future. The cryptocurrency which started as a joke in 2013, would become a juggernaut.

While Dogecoin is still far from taking over the world, it is legal tender in Brazil — at least when it comes to buying dog treats. Burger King recently introduced their meat-flavored treat, the Dogepper.
According to the ad:
“The biscuits, which carry the characteristic of the famous grilled meat BK flavor, can be purchased for the value of three dogecoins in a simple transaction: the transfer of DOGE from the consumer wallet directly to the DOGE wallet of Burger King.”
A portion of the proceeds from these sales will support animal protection NGOs. Of course, if you don’t have any DOGE, you can pay in regular currency. The treats are only available for a limited time, so if you’re in Brazil, now’s the time to spend your Doge.
Will the popularity of this campaign inspire other Burker King franchises? With more and more celebrities entering the crypto and blockchain space, we will continue to see more real-world commercialization of these virtual assets.
I’m not sure if Dogecoin will ever gain widespread adoption, but I’m sure we’ll see other virtual currencies stepping up to the plate in the near future.
