Cash App Integrates Bitcoin's Lightning Network

Jack Dorsey’s mobile payment service Cash App just added support for the Bitcoin Lightning Network, allowing users the ability for the faster and cheaper transfer of Bitcoin (BTC) to any Lightning or on-chain BTC address, the company tweeted on Monday. Lightning Network is now available on Cash App. It’s the fastest, free way to pay anyone in bitcoin. Buy tacos, tip your favorite Twitter comedian, or send a friend money abroad—anywhere that accepts lightning. pic.twitter.com/65TXSJ6yL6 — Cash App (@CashApp) February 7, 2022 The company initially announced the integration via an in-app notification just a few weeks ago. It now seems that the users can finally use the feature and take advantage of the benefits that Bitcoin Lightning Network offers. The integration of the lightning network was made possible by the Lightning Development Kit, an open-source project developed by Dorsey’s other company owned by Block, Spiral. The Lightning Development Kit (LDK) is a flexible Lightning implementation for developers who want to integrate Bitcoin’s Lightning Network into their applications in an easier and faster way. Lightning Network is a layer-2 solution for the Bitcoin blockchain that brings scalability to the network by creating a separate network. This allows users to transact via a minimal involvement with the Bitcoin blockchain in an effort to reduce costs and speed up transactions. Cash App is a mobile payments app developed and operated by Block Inc., a company founded by Jack Dorsey. In November 2021, Dorsey stepped down as the CEO of Twitter to focus more on Bitcoin (BTC).
