Christopher Brankin Leaves TD Ameritrade, Joins Capital.com as Singapore CEO

Capital.com has appointed financial industry veteran, Christopher Brankin as the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of its Singapore business.

“I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as CEO and Executive Director at Capital Com Singapore! I am excited to build a new business in Singapore,” Brankin wrote in a Linkedin post.

He will officially join Capital.com’s management in August, replacing Chul Lim who was hired as the Asia CEO last September.

The hiring came when Capital.com has been aggressively adding executives in the Asia Pacific. Most recently, the broker hired Angela Shi as the APAC CFO, following the hiring of Laura Lin as the APAC CEO last September.

Additionally, Peter Hetherington, who previously headed IG, took over as the CEO of Capital.com and Currency.com in May after the resignation of Jon Squires.

Addition of an Industry Veteran

According to his Linkedin profile, Brankin joined Capital.com earlier this month. He brings more than two decades of trading industry experience to his new role with the retail broker.

He joined Capital.com from TD Ameritrade, which is owned by Charles Schwab and is a popular retail electronic  trading platform  in the US. He spent almost all of the last 15 years of his career with the Asian subsidiary of TD Ameritrade and was the CEO and Executive Director in Asia for the last 11 years. Additionally, he held the role of the CEO at the Singapore entity of the American broker.

The appointment of such an experienced industry expert clearly shows the ambitions of Capital.com in Singapore and other Asian markets.

Meanwhile, client demand on Capital.com is skyrocketing after the impact of the pandemic on the  retail trading  market. The platform posted a 229 percent trading volume increase in the first quarter of 2022 following a 350 percent jump in 2021 client numbers.
