Crypto Community Rages Over New Amendment to US Bill

Crypto Community Rages
  • The White House’s Infrastructure bill has created quite the ruckus.
  • Particularly, it is the new amendment to the bill that caused the uproar.
  • The crypto community is furious by the change and demands reconsideration.

The crypto community is ablaze as they rally towards changing the latest amendment to the new infrastructure plan set by the US government. This plan is working toward maintaining a strict array of reporting requirements for validators and developers but not for miners.

In detail, Senators Rob Portman and Mark Warner made a last-minute change to the White House’s infrastructure plan. The change will exclude proof-of-mining and those who sell hardware/software wallets from being affected by the bill.

However, the plan’s text suggests that proof-of-stake validators and crypto developers will have to submit to the tax and reporting requirements. Furthermore, the plan is seeking to raise $28 billion for funding infrastructure by imposing taxes on the crypto community. Crypto ‘brokers’ will find that they must meet new reporting requirements.

A few hours later, a reporter for The Washington Post tweets an update. The reporter — Jeff Stein, confirms that the White House is in favor of this bill, including the new amendment. The tweet specified that the White House supports this bill over another.

Specifically, this other amendment had a much wider list of entities that would be exempted from the new effects of the bill. This included miners as well as validators, and many more. Most crypto leaders are viewing this divide from the new amendment as an unfair call.

For instance, the executive director of Coin Center — Jerry Brito tweeted his thoughts. He said that the new amendment is ridiculous and could prove disastrous. To conclude, he says that if this bill passes it is clear that the US Congress is picking ‘winners’ and ‘losers’.

The uproar is strong, and the crypto community is rallying to push back against the new amendment. In fact, a petition has already begun to circulate. It calls for crypto enthusiasts to take action and demands retribution.
