Silliman University Dean Florin Hilbay, distinguished lawyer and the most prominent Bitcoin advocate in the academe is slated to be special guest at the upcoming #CryptoPH Conversations event on April 19, 2024 co-organized by BitPinas and Luis Buenaventura, the Head of Crypto at GCash.

The event, co-presented by BLINC (Bitshares Labs), aims to delve into the implications of the Bitcoin Halving and its impact on the future market outlook for crypto in the Philippines.

Florin Hilbay Introduction

Florin Hilbay is a legal luminary and the former Solicitor General of the Philippines.

Currently the Dean of College of Law at Silliman University, Hilbay launched two books about Bitcoin – BITCOIN: An introduction to the peer-to-peer, open source, censorship- resistant, immutable, permissionless, decentralized, global, digital monetary network of the 21st century and Introduction to Bitcoin: Navigating The Future of Money.

Hilbay’s involvement is expected to enrich discussions on the legal and economic aspects of Bitcoin, especially in the context of the Bitcoin halving.

Joining Hilbay is Luis Buenaventura, head of crypto at GCash and co-organizer of the event, who will explore the market dynamics post-Bitcoin halving. Binance website (not the app) blocked in the Philippines

Perhaps the biggest news last week is the SEC fulfilling its promise of blocking Binance in the Philippines. The NTC approved the SEC’s request for the blocking. Users in the country can no longer access Binance via the browser although the app is still working.

BSP Monetary Board Cancels Atomtrans Crypto Exchange (VASP) License

The Monetary Board, the policy-making body of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), has revoked the registration of ATOMTRANS TECH CORP., one of the virtual asset service providers (VASP) in the country.

The cancellation of the license that allows ATOMTRANS to deal with virtual currency transactions was articulated in Resolution NO. 145.A dated February 1, 2024 and publicly announced on March 25, 2024.
