Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk provided Ukrainians with access to Starlink satellite internet services. Starlink is a satellite internet constellation operated by Musk’s aerospace manufacturing enterprise SpaceX. This decision was a response to a direct request from Mykhailo Fedorov, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine.
“Starlink service is now active in Ukraine. More terminals en route,” said Elon Musk in response to the Vice Prime Minister’s request on Twitter. The SpaceX founder also tweeted that the company was sending Ukrainians the necessary equipment required to use Starlink’s services. Starlink’s low-orbit satellites provide high-speed broadband internet, however, access to the network requires the installation of a special antenna and modem.

It was on Thursday that Russia launched a vicious military attack on Ukrainian soil, undeterred by the world’s repeated pleas for peace. The Russian army since then has advanced into cities causing unforgivable harm. The country has also been in fear of loss of means of communication, especially with the series of significant disruptions to internet service these past few days.
At this point, Musk’s help is a godsend for the people of Ukraine. Fedorov expressed his gratitude to Musk in a tweet and also extended thanks to the Ukrainian Ambassador to the US, Oksana Markarova, for the “swift decisions related to authorization and certification that allowed us to activate the Starlink.”
It is amid cascading snow and plunging hellfire, that the Ukrainian people are standing tall, fighting a superpower with sheer will. This indomitable spirit has powered the world to support their efforts. Musk is one among many powerful people who decided to listen to and help people plagued by war.
