SGF-Cybersecurity Week 2023 | 15th-19th May

ā€œSmart Grid Forums is on the leading edge of grid security.ā€Don Miller, Chief Technology Evangelist – Network Perception

Recent research conducted by Smart Grid Forums among European power grid operators reveals that the sector is finally uniting in its fight against cybercriminals. Recent trends in WFH and BYOD as well as the Ukraine war have exacerbated the need for the interconnected European grid sector to collaborate, cooperate and exponentially increase its cyber defences as well as implement a more robust offensive cybersecurity strategy to protect Europe from the energy security risks.

As a result Smart Grid Forums have launched SGF-Cybersecurity Week 2023 a week-long conference, exhibition and networking forum, taking place 15-17 May 2023 at the Park Plaza in Amsterdam, providing a safe, secure and highly vetted environment for collaborative conversations around next generation grid security. This forum brings together utility CISOs with their IT and OT cybersecurity teams for an in-depth discussion around the impact of geopolitics on the evolving threat landscape, the emergence of new grid vulnerabilities in the context of increased grid innovation and interconnection, the latest IT and OT cybersecurity solutions on the market and in development, and the implications of multiple regulatory frameworks with competing demands underpinning cybersecurity strategies.

The week begins with a Risk Management briefing delivered by utility CISOs and their advisors to provide clarity on the strategic frameworks that guide technical efforts. The main 3-day conference provides a series of morning plenary sessions addressing the macro issues such as Regulation, Workforce Development, and Data Management, and afternoon technical tracks focused on next generation cybersecurity strategies and solutions in the IT and OT domains. The week wraps up with a practical workshop on Cloud Cybersecurity enabling utility cybersecurity teams to make the business case and establish a robust security strategy to guarantee data security and gain organisational buy-in for greater levels of cloud migration.

With 70% of sessions being addressed by utility cybersecurity representatives, this week-long programme provides a truly end-user driven conversation with insights into successes and setbacks as well as clear directions on future utility roadmaps. Alongside the case-study agenda is a solutions zone displaying the latest IT and OT prevention, detection, and response solutions. Weaved into the week-long programme are a series of facilitated networking sessions supporting more intensive collaboration between IT and OT security colleagues as well enabling more effective technology scouting and partnering activities.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

Monday 15th May 2023: Risk Management Briefing

The week begins with this insightful briefing on the Risk Management priorities of utility CISOs, with presentations shared on the current regulatory landscape, the implications of new standards, securing on-going cybersecurity budget, driving workforce development, and spearheading collaboration. Participants will come away with a clear understanding of whatā€™s keeping the CISO awake at night, and how the entire cybersecurity team and ecosystem must align, to get the power grid ahead of the threat.

Tuesday 16th to Thursday 18th May 2023: IT & OT Cybersecurity Conference & Exhibition

The main conference is comprised of morning plenary sessions where all participants are in one room, addressing macro issues such as regulation, workforce development and data management, and afternoon technical tracks focused on the specific implementation issues impacting IT cybersecurity and OT cybersecurity teams. A combined programme of facilitated networking activities enable IT and OT colleagues to come together and share experiences, expertise, and gain insights into each otherā€™s priorities. Running alongside the conference is an Exhibition area with a focused display of IT and OT cybersecurity solutions proven in the power grid environment.

Friday 19th May 2023: Cloud Cybersecurity Workshop

The week wraps up with this Cloud cybersecurity workshop helping you to clarify the risks and opportunities of Cloud and Hybrid-Cloud solutions for the power grid. Participants will come away from this day with a clear action plan for gaining investment, aligning the workforce, and driving the implementation of Cloud solutions across the power grid.
