Cool wind nips at your cheeks as you look over the vast expanse of Sanctum, stretching out to the sea. From this beautiful hill-top district, with it’s tall brick buildings & neatly maintained streets, you can almost see the furthest reaches of the city. Tired after a grueling day of work, you start the long walk back to your small room in a much more. . . humble. . . part of the city.

Making your way through the central square, on your way out, you spot a sharply dressed young scribe pinning up a piece of parchment on the local job board.

“ Well met, Scribe. In what services are you in need of?” you say, trying to fit the accent of the local residents.

“Oh. . . Well. . . Protection, sir!” the scribe sheepishly replies, having not been expecting to talk to anyone.

Keeping up the façade of a much higher born member of society, you discuss the job and eventually negotiate a deal to provide the necessary protection. The young scribe explains where to be present tomorrow afternoon, and hands you the parchment that was to be hung up :

Expedition into an ancient watcher vault in order to retrieve lost tomes. Conditions should be routine, and danger unlikely.
