Moonpay announced it will welcome multiple celebrities in the latest funding round worth $555 million including Gal Gadot, Brie Larson, Steve Aoki, Justin Bieber, Ashton Kutcher, Matthew McConaughey, and more as we can see more today in our latest crypto news.
MoonPay announced today that many celebrities will pitch it to provide $86.7 million in funding for the company:
“The strategic investors represent industries on the cusp of transformation by Web3 technology.”
Paltrow already promoted BTC payments feature for the Cash App and she also noted:
“Web3 is inspiring the entertainment industry, and commerce in general, to reimagine the way we create community, connect with fans, build value and manage intellectual property.”
Aoki has been building a new brand via the ETH NFT and the metaverse and also added:
“It won’t be enough to release new [NFT] drops and hope it works; you’ve got to be way more participatory. Web3 makes that possible.”
It has been a huge rise for MoonPay which was founded in 2019. Back in December, it raised $555 million in a Series A round led by Tiger Global Management and Coatue which brought its valuation to $3.4 billion. The service now claims 10 million users in more than 160 different countries. The basic utility is that it integrates with other services to allow users to purchase crypto with a credit card or a debit card. The service processes NFT transactions for OpenSea and It is possibly the best known for facilitating celebrity purchases of Bored Apes. It facilitates purhcases on Bitcoin.com and also payments on other platforms. So if you tried to buy a token that is not listed on coinbase yet, chances are that one of the simplest options would be using MoonPay.
The ease of use is exactly what investors noticed. The co-founder of Creative Artists Agency Michael Ovitz, represents a few of the name investors and touted MoonPay’s technology saying that it lowers the barrier of entry to the entire crypto economy.
Also, DJ Steve Aoki is launching an Ethereum NFT membership club called AOK1VERSE but users will need a passport which will grant them access to various benefits. The DJ has been a prominent creator and collector in the NFT space over the past few years.
