Need for Speed Unbound comes out this year

Need for Speed Unbound is a new addition to the genre after an almost three-year break, and Electronic Arts has just unveiled the first trailer for the game. The most recent installment in the Need for Speed series, which was launched in 2019, was Need for Speed Heat.

Need for Speed Unbound is scheduled to be published on December 2, 2022 for the PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X and S platforms

The game was first previewed during the EA Play Live event in 2020. The last installment in the Need for Speed series, Need for Speed Most Wanted, was developed by Criterion Games in 2012. The newest installment in the series will be developed by Criterion Games, with assistance from Codemasters following EA’s acquisition of Codemasters in February 2021.

According to the clip, Need for Speed Unbound will bring back gameplay aspects that are already fan favorites, such as open-world exploring, open-road racing, car customization, and dodging the police. The game also features some distinctive aesthetics thanks to the cartoonish smoke and particle effects that are superimposed on top of realistic automobile models.

EA has verified in a tweet that users are able to turn off the effects by not adding them in the first place. The peculiar visual effects, which the publisher refers to as ‘Tags,’ appear when completing a variety of tasks such as deploying boost, drifting, and others. The game will take place in the fictitious city of Lakeshore City, in addition to what has already been shown in the trailer and the first gameplay footage.

“The publisher is gradually revealing more information through scheduled “drops” on its official website, but what we do know so far is that the city of Lakeshore City will be featured in the game.”

Rapper A$AP Rocky also makes an appearance in the game as what seems to be the game’s main enemy, driving a digital copy of the Mercedes-Benz 190E that he has modified to his own specifications.

“First and foremost, we have been provided with a comprehensive inventory of all 143 vehicles that will be playable in the game.”
