NFT Game Founder Lost 16 CryptoPunks And Lot Of ETH To Scammer

An NFT Game founder just lost 16 cryptopunks and a lot of ETH to a scammer while the average price of CryptoPunks balloons, the appetite of the scammers are also rising so let’s read more in our latest cryptocurrency news.

An NFT game founder lost 16 cryptopunks in a phishing attack a day ago and the scammer’s already sold 5 of those and made a staggering $385,000 and he also lost a bunch of ETH after falling prey to the scammer. The pseudonymous developer Stazie who is the developer of the NFT game Hedgie tweeted:

“I was lying in bed yesterday evening, mind was very foggy, casually browsing. The whole thing happened like a bad dream, almost felt like I was hypnotized.”

The scammer named “cryptopunksbot” posted in the discord channel of CryptoPunk server offering NFT investors the chance to win ten of the elusive NFT avatars and celebrate the project’s four-year anniversary. Stazie took the poster up for the offer but the move lost him 16 cryptopunks worth a least a million dollars. The link directed to LarvaLabs.io is a convincing copy from the project behind cryptoPunks and the scammy site had a popup that looked like Metamask according to Stazie referring to the widely-used wallet. The popup said that the Metamask security has been compromised and requested Stazie’s seed phrase to restore the access. Anyone with access to the twelve-word phrase can drain the wallet of funds.

Stazie sent his wallet’s seed phrase to the scammer and said:

“There was zero critical thinking, and this is beyond idiotic. The punks and ETH was quickly gone before I could do anything.”

The scammer’s wallet now contains 10 CryptoPunks that are visible on the Larva Labs. The scammer sold 5 CryptoPunks for 149 ETH and they transferred the only one which Stazie still uses as his profile picture on Twitter to another wallet a day ago. Stazie’s been in the crypto space since 2017 and considered himself quite familiar with the ways investors are swooped out of their crypto. He chalked up the lapse of judgment at the time down to being burnt out, frustrated and tired.
