Panasonic to power UK’s biggest immersive art centre

Panasonic has been selected as the official technology partner for the UK’s biggest permanent immersive art venue.

The company will supply over 50 3-Chip DLP laser projectors for Frameless, a new 30,000 sq ft site in London.

It will also use the new venue as a global “flagship showcase” for its projectors and large-format displays.

Visitors to Frameless can expect art shows brought to life with 479 million pixels and more than 1 million lumens of brightness and colour. These will be delivered by a mix of RQ22 and RQ35 projectors, while the MZ16 model will also be showcased at the venue.

Frameless is the first digital art centre in London and is based near the city’s landmark Marble Arch. Art will be shown in four immersive galleries and a fifth gallery will be dedicated to corporate and educational events.

Audio immersion will be achieved with 360-degree surround sound provided by 158 loudspeakers from British manufacturer EM Acoustics, with over 36,00 watts of amplification. The company’s R8 loudspeakers will ensure each gallery at the venue has a bespoke soundtrack plus soundscapes with interactive audio triggered by audience movement.

The video and audio systems will be complemented by Hive media servers, calibration cameras, switching, movement and depth sensors.

The systems integration team at Creative Technology has been given the job of sourcing and installing all video systems across the four immersive galleries and in a wider range of spaces including the foyer, escalator and cafe bar. Audio systems will be supplied and installed by Autograph Sound.

The centre is a collaboration between individuals drawn from technology, the arts, architecture, and experiential events, including an Emmy award-winning production team at agency FiveCurrents who hold 15 Olympic credits to their name, including the London 2012 ceremonies.

Simon Kentish, CTO at Frameless, said: “Panasonic’s world class projection technology will bring iconic masterpieces to life in an entirely new way that truly encapsulates the idea of art being all around us.”

Jan Jahn, head of Panasonic Media & Entertainment Business in Europe, said: “We’re delighted to partner with Frameless for our global flagship showcase. The thrill of seeing something unexpected or new for the first time is an experience that stays long in the memory, and we now have world-class technology to place people right at the heart of this experience.”

Frameless will open on 7 October and tickets are already on sale at Frameless.com
