Sappy Seals Made a Splash As Smaller NFT Collections Find Traction

Seals, Penguins, Renga, Potatoz and mfers make jump in trading volume

Sappy Seals is one of the biggest eye catchers in the first week of 2023, as it’s one of various relatively smaller NFT collections that find traction on the secondary market. The NFT trading volume of Sappy Seals, Pudgy Penguins, Renga, The Potatoz and mfers all saw a serious spike in trading volume, while the floor price hardly budged.

Over the past 7 days the Sappy Seals NFT collection saw its trading volume pump 498%, reaching a total of $1.46 million. This made the cartoon seals reach the 24th position in the NFT Collection rankings. The most expensive Sappy Seal sold for 4.75 ETH, or $5,710 at the time of the sale.

The sudden success of Sappy Seals can’t be seen separate from the recent hype surrounding Pudgy Penguins. While the penguins have found a new leader in Luca Netz, the Sappy Seals community has a captain in an anonymous person called Wab.eth. In both cases, the community and its faith in their leader has brought lots of hype to the projects.

Over the past week 27 December stood out, as Sappy Seals generated $764,000 in trading volume, half of the entire volume in the past 7 days. Wab.eth suggested that the Sappy Seals project will have a strong start in 2023, without going much into detail. The community did work together to raise funds for St. Jude’s Hospital in December.

That’s a Sappy New Year for sure.

Collections with similar success as Sappy Seals

The biggest Web3 brands in the industry had a decent past week. For example, Bored Ape Yacht Club saw its floor price pump 7.8% in the past week to $83,870. However, Mutant Ape Yacht Club saw a 0.35% decrease in its floor price, and CloneX dropped 4.9%.

The most activity was seen in smaller collections, such as Sappy Seals. For example the Pudgy Penguins collection has been riding the waves for some time now. They have seen a 249% increase in trading volume, while the floor price remained stable over the past 7 days. However, in the past month the floor price of the penguins went up 32%. This happened after Luca Netz outlined new plans for the project.

Alongside Pudgy Penguins and Sappy Seals, Renga has seen its floor price go up 27% over the past week, while the trading volume tripled to $1.75 million. Furthermore, the floor price of Meebits went up 52%, reaching $4,510. The impending Otherdeeds play test could possibly play a role here. Lastly, Fluf World is finding traction thanks to the impending release of their metaverse world Futureverse.
