Sony Entertainment Files Patent for Betting Services to Accept Bitcoin 

In a recent announcement, it has been revealed that Sony Interactive Entertainment has filed a patent for a platform that will be allowing users to bet on esports using Bitcoin, physical currency, or even in-game items. The listing on PatentScope revealed that Sony initially filed the patent in the year 2019, but was only published this month.

As suggested by the patent itself, there is a system where the viewers of the esports events that are live-streamed, such as fighting game tournaments, would be able to bet on the outcome of the matches through Bitcoin. 

They will be able to do so while watching the action play out in real-time, and as for the system’s working, it would work via a user interface overlay that could be brought up over the stream in order for the user to place their bets.

The patent addressed the seeming forms in the bets could be placed, mentioning:

“Wagers may be pecuniary, e.g., money or bitcoin, or maybe non-pecuniary, e.g., game assets, digital rights, and virtual currency.”

This clearly means that the user would be able to earn and then bet in-game currency, or even in-game items using the system. 

Joint Purchase of the Largest Fighting Game Tournament, Evo

Well, the tech giant has recently executed its joint purchase of the largest fighting game tournament in the world, Evo, so there are chances that the patent could be directly tied to the service being used in collaboration with Evo.

In addition to this, it has been noticed that the firm has been busy filing a lot of patents recently, with the platform holder planning to assist the system for struggling gamers, and a system that could allow the older games to be patched with the trophy assistance.
