The Kingdom of Tonga experienced the shockwave of the massive volcanic eruption of the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai volcano. More eruptions ensued after teh first which left the citizens of Tongatapu, the main island of Tonga that faces yet another tsunami.

Amid the difficulties, the crypto holders expressed sympathy and intent to donate BTC to help with the relief operations. Twitter user Onair Blair urged BTC supporter and former Tongan lawmaker Lord Fusitu’aa to set up a wallet address where people can donate BTC to the relief funds. With the waves of up to 1.2 meters covering roads and properties, the people started fleeing to higher ground in order to escape. At the time of writing, there have been no casualties reported but air and water contamination are some of the immediate concerns for the aid organizations.

Lord Fusitu’s responded with a BTC wallet address and a link where people can donate fiat and help with the relief operations. The address recieved a total of $4625 since Sunday. Lord Fusitu’s said that there are plans to use geothermal energy from the volcanos to power BTC mining operations that will aid the country’s finance. The country has more than 20 volcanoes and according to Lord Fusitu’a, each volcano produces 95,000 megawatts at all times leaving plenty to spare. The lord noted that one volcano can generate $2000 worth of BTC every day and this will be given to the families hit by the natural disaster. The former lawmaker noted that the country will copy El Salvador’s move to make BTC a legal tender. Lord Fusitu’a said that this could happen by November and December this year.

We have seen other types of Bitcoin donations recently. For example, South Korean lawmakers will start accepting political donations in BTC according to Representative Lee Kwang-jae who aims to fuel his campaign by receiving BTC and ETH donations
