VeeFriends Amongst Millions Worth of CryptoPunks – Top 10 NFT Sales

Sotheby’s auctions Covid Alien Punk for $11,8 million

One NFT from serial entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk sits amidst $12,49 million worth of CryptoPunks in this week’s Top 10 NFT Sales. The lion’s share from these millions comes from punk 7523, better known as Covid Alien Punk, which sold through Sotheby’s for $11,8 million.

Without a doubt, the auction of the Covid Alien Punk has been the highlight of the week. With an $11,8 million price tag, it’s now among the most valuable NFTs of all time. It’s no surprise that the hype surrounding the NFT auction by Sotheby’s also gave the entire CryptoPunks collection a sales boost. The entire NFT collection is up 41% to more than $4 million in volume from 78 NFT sales. Five of those sales made it into DappRadar’s Top 10 NFT Sales.

Among the remaining NFT in the top 10, there’s a Floyd Mayweather NFT, a Decentraland estate, and an NFT that functions as an investment in a Canadian smart village. However, the NFT we’d like to highlight is the Rare Robot from the VeeFriends collection.

The NFTs in the VeeFriends collection are part of Gary Vaynerchuk’s social experiment, giving NFT owners access to events and perhaps even Vaynerchuk’s social circle. In this case, the Rare Robot has a hologram background, making it visually unique. However, its benefits remain the same as for the many other Rare Robots: admission to VeeCon 2022, 2023, and 2024.

But why would someone pay $134,530 for this NFT then? Best guess: because it’s visually unique and made by a prominent person in the blockchain and investment space.

Alien punk boost for NFT marketplaces

The auction of the Covid Alien Punk has been a morale boost for the NFT sector. The NFT market has seen a decline in top value NFT sales. In the past 30 days, Ethereum-based marketplaces like Rarible, Sorare, SuperRare, and Foundation have seen their usage and volume drop 10 to 40%. Even non-Ethereum marketplaces saw a drop, as Atomic Market saw its number of traders drop 37%. However, its volume went up 44% to $19,9 million.

The only NFT marketplace that has been able to boost both its user numbers and its volume, is the Axie Infinity Marketplace on the Ronin sidechain. In the past 30 days, they had 34,047 users, placing the marketplace behind NBA Top Shot and Atomic Market. However, their volume pumped an amazing 380% to more than $63,29 million. In terms of volume, the Axie Infinity Marketplace is only behind OpenSea, which registered $77,1 million in volume during the same time period.
