Wireless Network Helium Contemplating Shift To Solana

In a fresh proposal released on August 30, the blockchain-powered wireless network Helium (HNT) is thinking about switching to the Solana (SOL) blockchain.

According to the HIP 70 plan, switching to Solana would boost network operational effectiveness by granting Helium access to Solana’s development tools, programs, and capabilities.

The idea aims to change three things significantly:

  • Placing Proof of Coverage (PoC) in Oracles.
  • Transfer Accounting Data to Oracles.
  • Transfer all tokens from the Helium network to the Solana blockchain.

Why is Helium thinking to make the change?

According to the plan, the shift is required because managing data flow and accounting has become more challenging as a result of the Helium network’s expanding user base, creating inefficiency problems.

These issues will be resolved, and the network’s stability will improve as a result of moving PoC and data transfer to Oracles, enabling greater scalability.

The switch to Solana, the developers continued, is acceptable because it offers the scalable architecture Helium at this time requires.

In their opinion, the situations that led to the creation of a Layer1 blockchain for the Helium network are no longer present. The crypto ecosystem has developed, and the number of Layer1 choices to build on has increased.

How will Helium benefit?

The plan states that by integrating Helium into a healthy developer ecosystem, which will enable developers to use its services in their projects, adoption of Helium would increase.

It was further stated that Helium would gain from Solana’s sizable open-source community and access to additional blockchain developers.

The plan also claimed that there would be a 6.85% rise in the amount of HNT incentive tokens given to miners or node operators after the migration.

There is currently no schedule for when the move will take place if the proposal is approved. The plan is up for a vote from September 12 to September 18.

It would be interesting to see how the community reacts.
