The classic American teen comedy Mean Girls is set to venture into the metaverse by coming back in the form of “crypto-collectibles” and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), according to the recent trademark filings by Paramount Pictures, the production behind the hit chick flick.

As per the tweets by Mike Kondoudis, a licensed trademark attorney, Paramount Pictures filed two trademark applications on September 7th for the show.

According to the trademark applications, they describe the collectibles as “downloadable multimedia files containing artwork” that are authenticated by NFTs, as well as “downloadable virtual goods.“

Moreover, the application also mentioned transferring and accessing crypto-collectibles, NFTs, and “application tokens.”

Mean Girls was released in 2004, a teen comedy film that later spawned countless fan-made memes and reaction GIFs. It is considered one of the most quotable movies of all time.

The crypto and NFT space have been rapidly expanding since last year as several big entities have ventured into the industry. One of the recent firms to dive in was coffee giant Starbucks and music company Sony.

NFTs in media are no longer novel, as there are already other shows that offer this to their fans.
