MISO, a token launch platform on SushiSwap, has recently suffered a major supply chain cyberattack, which resulted in the loss of 864.8 ethereum.

According to SushiSwap’s Chief Technology Officer Joseph Delong, he was the first one to identify the hacking incident. Delong immediately tweeted the link that stole the funds from the protocol to spread awareness about the incident.

The CTO said that he noticed that an anonymous contractor has managed to inject malicious code into the MISO platform’s front end. The unauthorized action has replaced the original contractor for the Jay Pegs Auto Mart token auction with a personal ETH address.

Because of this, 864.8 ETH were illegally transferred to the address, but despite the incident, it hasn’t affected other auctions on the platform.

Accusations

During the heat of the incident, Delong has made a series of tweets (which were now deleted) accusing a certain “eratos1122”, a pseudonymous developer who worked with SushiSwap, of being behind the attack.

The CTO then shared a document revealing the trail of transactions linked to the hacker’s original address. Delong then posted an ultimatum to return the funds and threatened that he will file criminal charges against the hacker.

Fortunately, it took only a couple of hours before the hacker returned the 865 ETH to the original MISO contract.

Etherscan, a decentralized smart contract platform, revealed that the hacker’s address has been almost emptied, indicating that the stolen funds were indeed returned. Delong confirmed this in his tweet.

Real identity still unclear

While Delong is thankful that the stolen ETH funds were finally returned, he isn’t “vindicated” yet as the real identity of the hacker is still unknown.

He deleted his previous tweet accusing a MISO developer of orchestrating the attack. The developer retaliated by threatening Delong with releasing the MISO platform’s code if he didn’t receive an apology to Delong and SushiSwap.
