Axie Infinity’s appeal continues to shine among developing countries

Video-game streaming sites such as Twitch have made it possible for players to make money by broadcasting their gaming experience to a large audience of other gamers.

However, thanks to the tokenomics of blockchain-powered digital games like Axie Infinity, it is now feasible for consumers to earn money simply by participating in the game itself.

The United States is ranked third in terms of active Axie Infinity players, according to data from ActivePlayer.io. All other countries on the list are developing countries, according to the same data.

Axie Infinity has more than 360,000 active gamers at the time of this writing.

The Philippines on top

Around 40% of gamers are based in the Philippines alone, the latest figures show. Players in Ghana who play Axie Infinity can earn between 854 and 2,562 Ghanaian cedis every month ($140 to $420), according to a Twitter user named Saharan-sub. This is several times more than the country’s minimum salary.

Axie Infinity is a video game developed by Sky Mavis, a Vietnamese video game developer, and released in 2018.

There are creatures in the game called “Axies,” which players can acquire and utilize to duel against other players and opponents. Every Axie is a nonfungible token (NFT), which is created on the Ethereum network and cannot be redeemed for cash.

One of the most popular ways to make money is to purchase and sell Axies on the internet marketplace. Axies are available in a variety of rarity level, each with its own set of strengths and traits.

Axie doesn’t come cheap

In order to breed Axies, a player needs three different digital currencies: the Smooth Love Potion (SLP), the Axie Infinity Shard (AXS), and Ethereum (ETH), which is needed to pay for gas expenses.

Breeding a rare top-tier Axie requires 10,200 SLPs ($683.90), 1 AXS ($137.81), and 0.1813 ETH ($823.30), for a total cost of $1,645.01.

According to market data, approximately 2 million Axies have been bought and sold in the last several months, resulting in a total transaction value of 140,956.7 ETH ($639.5 million).

The previous year, a total of 300 ETH (equivalent to $1.375 million) was spent to purchase the most expensive Axie ever sold, setting a new record.
