According to DappRadar data, the NFT market generated is pushing hard. OpenSea alone generated upwards of $3.2 billion in sales in August. This is a rather lucrative opportunity, even for people making big money on the regular. Considering the huge exposure and the dedication the NFT community is showing for collectibles, it is no surprise that Hollywood stars and top-shot sports stars are joining the NFT hype. 

Which celebrities dabbled into NFTs this month?

Lionel Messi

Impressively, celebrities of all walks of life are entering the craze. For example, an official licensed Lionel Messi NFT sold for upwards of $1 million. The NFT was released on the Ethrenity platform, specializing in dropping licensed and authenticated collectibles, often related to big names in the music industry, sports, or the movie industry. 

Messi just dropped a huge bomb for his fans, announcing his official transfer to Paris Saint-Germain. The wave of interest following the announcement was complemented by a craze following the NFT drop. This was a rather successful drop, with all of the rare editions snatched in just minutes. 

Kanye West

Just a couple of days ago, Kanye West started introducing his latest album, “Donda”. Dedicated to his late mother, the album is gaining momentum as Kanye fans are lining up to see pre-release shows. Interestingly, in this celebrity NFT case, the superstar had nothing to do with the NFT design.

BossLogic, the Lionel Messi collection creator, surprised Twitter on August 30th by posting two images of “Donda” NFTs. The NFTs represent two variations of a Kanye outfit that can be used in virtual worlds. 

BossLogic is becoming a golden standard in the celebrity NFT niche, releasing licensed drops that attract thousands of fans. There is no official information about the Donda drop yet, but fans are eager to see Kanye join the NFT hype. 

Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson has been part of the NFT world for a while now. However, just recently, OpenSea put his NFTs among the hot picks that caught the platform’s attention. 

Mike Tyson’s collaborative collection with Cory Van Lew is currently trending and has a floor price of 4.79 ETH or about $15,913 at the time of writing. The collection includes several one-out-of-one pieces that have become the centerpiece for fans. All NFTs depict important moments in Tyson’s career, reimagined through the creative lens of rising talent Cory Van Lew.

One might wonder why these people, who already have a massive following, want to spend time and money to create NFTs. The answer is simple – it’s what the fans want. NFTs have become the ultimate way to push out collectibles, and that’s what fans live for.
