Horizon Worlds Spotlight: Space Explorers Agora

Welcome back to our weekly spotlight on the people building for Horizon Worlds and their amazing creations.

Last week, we pondered the existential nature of pastries: Are they compelling in a basic black-and-white two-dimensional state, or do they need the vibrancy of color to make you want to devour them? That’s the question that 2D Cafe delves into, asking us to bring our creativity to the table and add dimension to an otherwise stark and austere place just begging for it.

This week, we head into space to ponder larger and even more existential questions in Space Explorers Agora from VR impresarios Felix & Paul Studios.

“The closer we get to making space more accessible to everybody, the closer we get to being a truly space-faring species.”

If there’s one thing to love about space enthusiasts, it’s that they’re usually endlessly optimistic—and the quote above, which greets arrivals in Space Explorers Agora, is about as aspirational as it gets. One of Felix & Paul Studios’ primary goals is to help more people experience and love space as much as they do. Speaking at Connect in 2017 and introducing Space Explorers, Felix & Paul Studios’ immersive documentary series that seeks to democratize space, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg took a moment to wax poetic about that ambition: “Most of us will never get to experience zero gravity or travel to the Space Station—but you can in VR.”

Space Explorers Agora is the latest effort in Felix & Paul Studios’ initiative to inspire excitement around the exploration of space, particularly over the next three years as NASA embarks on its Artemis lunar mission.

Visitors to Space Explorers Agora will get a front row seat to an ongoing series of panels related to space. The first, “Celestial Origins,” will be a discussion about our collective need to understand humanity’s origins. Future panels will include discussions about whether there’s life beyond Earth, what humans need to do to survive and thrive during long-term space travel, what future civilizations in space might look like, and more.

But Space Explorers Agora is also a beautiful place to spend time just staring into the galaxy, looking at stars through a giant telescope, or playing with objects like space rocks or a miniature rocketship. Wander around the venue where the panels will be held, and you’ll soon get an appreciation for our place in the universe. And if Felix & Paul Studios have anything to say about it, you’ll want to see, experience, and learn as much about space as possible. They’re very much here to take you on that journey. Good luck and Godspeed.
