Maximalists Have To Take A Different Route, BTC Core Contributor Says

Maximalists have to take a different route, according to a Bitcoin core contributor Matt Corallo. Matt also stated that the us-versus-them mentality, which encourages the Bitcoin community to criticize projects other than BTC, has to be abandoned.

When Bitcoin (BTC) was the only cryptocurrency project that wasn’t a hoax in the past, promoting only BTC made total sense. A Bitcoin Core contributor, however, asserted that this hasn’t been the case for a while and asked the community to abandon the “we vs them” mentality.

“Bitcoin maxis are a dying breed. While there was a time where ~ everything except Bitcoin was basically a scam, that hasn’t been true for a long time, and the smart money has moved on to figuring out which projects are going somewhere, and which are straight pump-and-dumps.” said Corallo.

The community was alerted by Matt Corallo, a Bitcoin Core contributor, in a Twitter thread that BTC supporters were currently focusing their attention on criticizing competing projects rather than arguing why Bitcoin is exceptional and unique.

“This is particularly damning to Bitcoin because, instead of its most vocal proponents explaining why Bitcoin is great and unique, its most vocal proponents spend all their time just attacking other projects. Sure, some of them are scams and may deserve it, but it doesn’t help BTC.”

Corallo claimed that the current state of affairs is resulting in what he called a “narrative war” in which competing crypto projects attack one another. Corallo continued by suggesting that if Bitcoiners attack Ethereum (ETH) for the impending Merge, claiming that proof-of-stake (PoS) would not function, it will incite ETH supporters to lobby regulators against Bitcoin from the same standpoint of the environment.

3/ The “narrative wars” are coming, arguably are already here. With ETH (finally) moving to PoS, people who’ve only heard about how “PoS won’t work” from Bitcoiners will have even less reason to care about what Bitcoiners have to say.

The developer concluded by urging Bitcoiners to stop criticizing projects that are not BTC and instead concentrate on discussing Bitcoin and its advantages. This is why maximalists have to take a different route.

Michael Saylor, a supporter of Bitcoin, declared in an interview in July that all PoS networks are securities and very hazardous. Due to its fundamental characteristics, such as the fact that it was released via an initial coin offering, he contended that Ethereum is a security. He pointed out that regulators will determine whether or not these initiatives should be continued.

Vitalik Buterin, the creator of Ethereum, has been vehemently defending the platform against detractors. Buterin criticized criticisms of ETH voting and dubbed one claim that ETH doesn’t vote on protocol parameters an “unmitigated bare-faced falsehood.”

It is clear that maximalists have to take a different route, but will they? We will see if they heed Corallo’s words.
