Meta Horizon Worlds v81 Release Notes

Welcome to Meta Horizon Worlds v81! Halloween is taking over Worlds this week with a limited-edition Arena Clash map. This release also includes a mix of bug fixes and quality of life improvements, reflecting our continued focus on quality, such as a few related to audio issues in worlds. Let’s get into it!

Arena Clash: Halloween

Things are getting spooky in Arena Clash! Grab your weapon and battle with your team on an all-new, limited-edition map featuring ghoulish sound effects, creepy underground tunnels, and team bases “possessed” by abandoned buildings and a graveyard. Costumes optional.

Out of the Blue

If you’re experiencing prolonged blue screens while loading Worlds, the problem might be related to an unstable WiFi connection that’s dropping packets. Consider switching your WiFi to 2.4GHz or resetting your router to see if that resolves the issue.

Bug Fixes & Quality of Life Improvements

General

  • “Creating a Party” now plays the correct sound.
  • We fixed a bug where avatar attachables prevented you from raising your hand to your ear to disable Garbled Voices quickly.
  • We also resolved an issue with Garbled Voices where putting your hand to your ear had unintended effects while traveling, and you could hear garbled voices the entire time.
  • We’ve updated Safe Zone so that when you enter, you’ll be able to move around your space, but you won’t see the movement of other players.
  • When traveling to/from a Venues event, the video screen should no longer flash, glitch, or continue playing audio during the loading screen.

Creators

  • When worlds or events contain 10 or more people, they will no longer experience audio quality issues. [UserVoice]
  • Spawning an empty asset variable, then stopping and starting a world will no longer break the world’s scripts.
  • Spawned assets will no longer trigger their “when world is started” event multiple times.

Visit 2.0

  • Enemies should no longer launch into the air in Diamond Defense, leading to the inability to progress in the game.
  • You should no longer get stuck unexpectedly in areas of your home in Personal Space.
  • Objects colliding with each other should now have the expected physics enacted on them.
  • We’ve fixed an issue where proximity-based sound effects were sometimes becoming global (audible everywhere) in Visit 2.0 worlds. The sound effect proximity setting should now be respected consistently. [UserVoice]

Known Issues

Arena Crash

We’ve addressed some performance issues in Arena Clash and are continuing work on other quality of life improvements, including but not limited to:

  • Health bar persists after leaving the world.
  • Some people can’t join a team in Arena Clash and stats are missing. [UserVoice]
  • Rocket launcher VFX repeats at the impact location until another rocket is fired.
  • Not being able to spawn back into the lobby after a game.

Creators

  • Unable to approve more than the 10 most recent posts to world page. [UserVoice]
  • World auto-saving is failing for some creators and leading to them being kicked out of the world and unable to re-enter. [UserVoice]
  • In Build and Edit mode, pulling the Door gizmo into the world causes headlock and performance issues.
  • Projectiles are broken in some worlds—object velocities drop to 0,0,0 when you pick them up, which breaks the experience in some worlds that have things like “throwing darts.” [UserVoice]
  • Sound capacity changes between edit, visit, and how many people are in a world. [UserVoice]
  • Most sound gizmos are not playing back any audio.
  • Switching between Edit and Preview mode doesn’t consistently trigger scripted On World Start events.

General

  • Some people can’t proceed past the “Play with Friends” loading page or the blue loading screen. [UserVoice for loading page, UserVoice for blue screen]
  • Low frame rate when watching other people or objects that are in motion.
  • When using party travel to go into personal space, invited guests will fail to travel and see an “Unable to travel” panel, but the host is able to travel successfully.
  • People are getting separated from their party when traveling.

Visit 2.0

  • In some worlds, it’s difficult to interact with grab points on large objects attached to an avatar.
  • Picking up grabbables and hitting them against each other causes some games to lag.
