The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is mourning the sudden loss of Commissioner Hubert Dominic B. Guevara, who passed away at the age of 56 after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Guevara’s SEC Tenure

Appointed to the Commission on March 1, Guevara’s tenure was tragically cut short when he died on March 29, 2024, following a brief hospital stay.

Before his untimely passing, Commissioner Guevara had begun his role with plans to bolster the regulatory landscape of the Philippines’ capital market.

His appointment followed the completion of former Commissioner Kelvin Lester Lee’s term, bringing Guevara’s vast experience from public service and private legal practice into focus, notably his tenure as Senior Deputy Executive Secretary under the Office of the President from 2022 to 2024.

SEC Chairperson Emilio B. Aquino had expressed optimism about Guevara’s appointment, acknowledging his extensive legal and executive expertise.

Extensive Experience

In his short time with the SEC, Guevara oversaw essential departments, including the Corporate Governance and Finance Department, Office of the General Accountant, and Financing and Lending Companies Division

His career also included a significant role in supporting the candidacy of now-President Marcos during the 2022 presidential race and his foundational work at Adarlo Caoile & Associates (ACALaw), along with his teaching roles at private learning institutions.

The SEC, along with Guevara’s family, friends, and colleagues, mourns the loss of the public servant.
